Medicare

Medicare offers services to allow treatment of a wide range of mental health difficulties. These are able to be accessed via a Mental Health Care Plan, which is created with you by your General Practitioner, usually during a double appointment.

The Medicare rebate covers all of the session cost making it even more affordable for you to receive the psychological treatment and care you need. All mental health care plan referrals are bulk billed, regardless of income.

If you are not eligible, or do not wish to access a Mental Health Care Plan, services can be provided privately without referral.

Accessing the Medicare rebates

Following assessment and referral by a GP clients can access up to 10 Medicare rebates for individual sessions with a psychologist in a calendar year. Clients can also access an additional 12 Medicare rebates for group sessions. A GP review must be obtained after each six sessions.
